BOOK REVIEW - JUDAS STRAIN

A judas strain is an organism that drives a species to extinction. From the Indian Ocean depths, an ancient menace plagues the modern world. Hope hides "within the language of angels." Aboard a cruise liner cum makeshift hospital, Dr Lisa Cummings and Monk Kokkalis, SIGMA agents, seek answers. But terrorists hijack the mercy ship for a floating bio-weapons lab.

4 July party a world away. SIGMA commander Gray Pierce thwarts an assassin who holds the first clue to a cure. He joins with her to follow the trail of Marco Polo. The quest winds through Venetian tombs, Byzantine cathedrals, and jungle-encrusted ruins. A relentless madman dogs every step. As seconds tick closer to doomsday, Pierce can trust no one. Any could be a Judas.
GOODREADS

I read this book with high expectation consider the series I already read and I must say i was disappointed by the story. The mystery, riddle or high-tech equipment is still there what is lack is pace of story. The story is so boring specially in Lisa and Monk side, to much technical term and for casual reader it maybe will stop them to read, i do stop several time when this segment came. Story getting better in the last third part, when the story near the end. Oh yeah, there's no twist ending in this book the only moment that importance in end of the book it's just true or false info which mean need more story to cover with it.

I'm a fan of Rollins book but sorry for this book I only give 2.7 from 5.
Hope it's better in the next books.

BOOK REVIEW - FIREFIGHT

Eliminating Steelheart was supposed to make life more simple. Instead, it only made David realize he has questions. Big ones. And there's no one in Newcago who can give him the answers he needs.

Babylon Restored, the old borough of Manhattan, has possibilities, though. Ruled by the mysterious High Epic, Regalia, David is sure Babylon Restored will lead him to what he needs to find. And while entering another city oppressed by a High Epic despot is a gamble, David's willing to risk it. Because killing Steelheart left a hole in David's heart. A hole where his thirst for vengeance once lived. Somehow, he filled that hole with another Epic--Firefight. And he's willing to go on a quest darker, and more dangerous even, than the fight against Steelheart to find her, and to get his answers.
GOODREADS

Second book from The Reckoners Series by Brandon Sanderson. After freed the Newcago from high EPIC, now the team moved to other city to face another high EPIC. Like previous book, action and EPIC will be the interesting part. Also, this book will bring other character into the frame, Reckoners team and EPIC in New York or now it’s named Babylon Restored. Little secret about Calamity also will be appear here and further background about Prof will be surface within the story. If at first book we may be getting let down because the pace is decreasing when they planning to trap Steelheart, now in this second book the romance part became the bad part. It’s like I read a book about some high school loser falling love with cool girl and the girl finally notice him. In other word it’s lame. Another thing that I notice is less humor part than the first, the tone is more depressing. The good thing is Sanderson keep the story at high or medium pace, it better than the first book.

The title itself will give a bit spoiler if you haven’t read the first book because this book will be explained all things about that epic. So if you can, I recommend you to read the first book before. The ending become more appealing than the previous book, it gives us mix felling about one character (stop about the spoiler here :D). Sanderson give us the ending that will make us to wait impatiently to read the next book, he’s very good with this.  Aside the romance things, this book will rank high in my fantasy book list.

I give score for this book 4 out of 5.

Can’t wait for final book of this series next year.

BOOK REVIEW - STEELHEART

"Ten years ago, Calamity came. It was a burst in the sky that gave ordinary men and women extraordinary powers. The awed public started calling them Epics.

But Epics are no friend of man. With incredible gifts came the desire to rule. And to rule man you must crush his wills.

Nobody fights the Epics... nobody but the Reckoners. A shadowy group of ordinary humans, they spend their lives studying Epics, finding their weaknesses, and then assassinating them.

And David wants in. He wants Steelheart—the Epic who is said to be invincible. The Epic who killed David's father. For years, like the Reckoners, David's been studying, and planning—and he has something they need. Not an object, but an experience.

He's seen Steelheart bleed. And he wants revenge." -- Goodreads

What a book !!!!
It's like marvel/DC comics books turned into full text book, added all the superhero is bad villains.

Ours hero is a young man whose has a bad (or worse) incident involving EPIC.  We called them EPIC, cause they had epic power beyond normal human. EPIC spread all over the US and seized the State with their power, they became the "Governor" of the State. David, our hero, was aided by group of rebel with goal to overthrow the EPIC.

Second book from Mr. Sanderson that i read. Like other books of him, it have unique magic elements - all EPIC is magicians :D. Good story line and strong main character with sole purpose, the story is rather straight almost no flash back taken place. Supporting character also given a good back ground, leader of reckoners has the best story for me. The pace of the book is little slow, i gave 1 star down when the story came to moment when they planning to trap Steelheart it's very slow for my taste. If you also looking for twist you will get one in this book.

But, still i will give this book high appreciation. It's give us nice and different story about fantasy, there's no prodigy child, no dragon, no urban legend story or so. Just normal a teenager with his pals, trying to kicking bad EPIC ass.

Waiting for second book that will come January 2015.

Verdict: 4 star from 5

BOOK REVIEW - LIVES OF TAO

"When out-of-shape IT technician Roen woke up and started hearing voices in his head, he naturally assumed he was losing it. He wasn’t. He now has a passenger in his brain – an ancient alien life-form called Tao, whose race crash-landed on Earth before the first fish crawled out of the oceans. Now split into two opposing factions – the peace-loving, but under-represented Prophus, and the savage, powerful Genjix – the aliens have been in a state of civil war for centuries. Both sides are searching for a way off-planet, and the Genjix will sacrifice the entire human race, if that’s what it takes. Meanwhile, Roen is having to train to be the ultimate secret agent. Like that’s going to end up well…"
Goodreads

First book by Wesley Chu, and it's was a great one. Meet with Tao an alien who crushed to earth centuries ago, even before human existed. Tao and his races must attached to the brain of Earth original creatures due unfriendly condition of earth atmosphere if they want to live. Now, Tao attached to a man named Roen, a average guy-bit below average, who complaint all the time about his life.

List as science fiction genre, this book doesn't offer many hi-tech gadgets just an alien and his long age wisdom - who need more gadgets if you have a famous person wisdom. Story pace is little bit fast, with many time skip for sake of Roen progress. Chemistry between the duo will often make you smiled or even laughed, lives for centuries didn't make Tao sound like a old man he just sound like a man (or alien) who fitted to modern culture. It's like two best friend hang or argue each other, only they have one body. Beside main story we also meet with Roen love story which is tragic is the end (..Opppsss !!).

So this book have everything you need, action, secret agent, love, little bit history, and of course an alien. Don't doubt this book or the author, it will exceed your expectation, okay i over do it but i promise you will never be disappointing.

Ready for the sequel, death of Tao (WHAATT !!!!)....

BOOK REVIEW - SANDSTORM

Verdict : ***1/2

BOOK REVIEW - READY PLAYER ONE

Verdict : ****

BOOK REVIEW - THE DOOMSDAY KEY

THE DOOMSDAY KEY - JAMES ROLLINS

BOOK REVIEW - THE HIDDEN OASIS

THE HIDDEN OASIS - PAUL SUSSMAN

Mesir, 2153 SM. Membawa benda misterius yang terbalut kain, delapan puluh pendeta berpenutup kepala menuju Gurun Barat—bersama rombongan mereka turut pula seorang tukang jagal. Empat minggu kemudian, setelah tiba di tempat tujuan, si tukang jagal dengan tenang menggorok satu per satu leher para pendeta, hingga tersisa satu orang yang kemudian memotong sendiri pergelangan tangannya sebelum akhirnya dia juga tewas…
Albania, 1986.

Gurun Barat, masa kini.

Buku ke-3 dari Paul sussman setelah The Lost Army of Cambyses dan The Last Secret of the Temple.
